Antique Early 19thc Biscuit Figure of “War on Dog” Rockingham? Derby ? Minton? Super biscuit figure of War on a dog standing 5.25 inches high, 5 inches long and 2.5 inches wide. A beautiful early 19thc figure it portrays a boy sitting on a large dog. The modelling is very fine with wonderful crisp detail. The figure is unmarked as to manufacture but does have No3 incised in the manner of Rockingham and Derby . Although it is very similar to the Minton model there are differences i.e. the sword scabbard faces the other way. The condition is commensurate with the age and medium having some restoration to the dog’s tail and to the arm resting on the dogs head. There are a couple of nibbles to the hat and a firing flaw at the bottom of the pedestal. The photos do form part of the description. A similar MINTON model can be seen in Minton Pottery and Porcelain of the first period 1793-1850 plate 137 by Geoffrey Godden A rarely seen early 19thc biscuit figure it displays very well indeed.
