This is a beautiful, old, solid brass, cast dinner or door bell that I came across at a recent Estate Sale. It was hanging outside the door and probably spent many years announcing guests as they arrived. The bell measures 5" in diameter and around 8 ½" tall to the top of the ring on the bell. (See picture next to coke can). The entire overall height of the long wall mount bracket is approximately with bell attached is approximately 16". The bracket juts out from the wall around 8". This Angelic bell is very ornate and is adorned with an Angel on the front and Celtic Dragon's or Gargoyles on the bracket side and on the pull chain. The bell portion is stamped with fleur de leis designs along with pictures of women (almost look like mermaids). It has a gorgeous deep clear tone when the chain is pulled down. As you can see by the pictures it has a lovely old patina. I have not tried to clean this as I know many people prefer the natural aging. I did dust off the cobwebs :). I have no idea how old it is, but the grandaughter said it had been on the house ever since she could remember. The lettering at the top of the bell is Latin "QUE ME TANGIT VOCEM MEAM AUDT", from what I have been able to find this means something like "Whoever touches me hears my voice" or "He Who Strikes me calls forth my sound".
