This vintage medal was acquired by my mother, a Catholic missionary nurse living in Thailand. Some were acquired when visiting Buddhist temples near the hospital where she worked. We have posted a picture of Bertha above; the founder of Church-Woman Antiques. This pendant has a diameter is 1 inch and weighs 7 grams. The dharmacakra is one of the oldest known Buddhistsymbols found in Indian art, appearing with the first surviving post-Harappan Indian iconography in the time of the Buddhist king Aśoka. It has been used by Buddhist nations as a symbol ever since. In its simplest form, the Dharmachakra is recognized globally as a symbol for Buddhism.
