A Fine Antique Combination Snuff Box / Vest Case / Tobacco Box.

English, dating from the second half of the 19th century - c. 1890.

A hand constructed, oval in section, polished steel and brass combination box - the steel surfaces retaining the original 'blued' finish.

The upper face incorporates a rectangular cover to the tobacco compartment - the cover located by a brass lip. The precession brass hinge to the cover also acts for the concealed snuff compartment to the underside of the top, longer, edge - see image 6.

Images 7, 8 & 9 detail the snuff compartment - the box edge forming the 'secret' cover. A concealed thumbnail slot is incorporated centrally to the flush fitting cover.

One end-face incorporates the vesta case - this end-face also being hinged, forms a press fitting cover to the vesta compartment. Images 10 & 11, detail a recessed 'striker' to the cover of the vesta casing.

The tobacco compartment cover is engraved with the original owner's name, "Th. Heap." - see image 12.

Overall length - 3 5/8" (93mm).

Very good, untouched period condition - no repairs, natural colour and patina.
