Up for auction is a very old antique solid copper Apple Butter or Candy kettle or pot. This dates from the early to mid 1800's and is by far one of the biggest ones I have ever seen! It measures 23 inches wide, 16 inches tall and 27 inches when the handle is straight up. As you can see in the photos w I am holding it, this kettle is HUGE! The kettle is made of solid copper and has a wonderful patina from age. It has never been polished and has a great look. The handle, and hinges are made of solid cast iron with a wonderful hand hammered look. This kettle has no visible marks but looks exactly like another kettle I have with the makers mark "J.P. Schaum" who was a coppersmith in Lancaster, Pa. This kettle has alittle wear around the top edge w the mark should be and could have been easilt worn from use. Overall the kettle is in very nice original condition for its age. It has some dents from use and the bottom is curved, not flat. The original side seam on the kettle has a small seperation what can easily be fixed. Other than that, t are no cracks, no holes, no pieces missing and no repairs. The cast iron also has a great original patina and no major rust to speak of. This is by far one of the biggest solid copper kettles I have ever seen and a must for any collector. It again dates from the 1800's and might be ever earlier! This
