Up for bids we offer an antique, primitive, tin candle lantern up for bids without reserve. We found this lamp hanging in an old barn where it hadn't been touched for decades. All four sides sides have glass with "X" shaped metal barriers to protect from breakage. One side has a hinged, tin door with a metal latch and it opens and closes without a problem. The top can also be opened by removing pin or completely taken off by removing two pins. The top of this lantern has a round, smoke vent/chimney that has punched holes on the sides and an embossed cap on top. There's also a swiveling handle that is in very good condition. This old lamp has a great, undisturbed patina with old green paint along with minor surface rust which adds to its charm. There's absolutely no structural rust problem or other serious damage other than a horizontal crack in one panel of glass. Not including the handle, it measures about 8 3/4" high, 4 3/4" wide, and 4 3/4" long. Just as we found it, this old country lantern is a great looking piece of early lighting that's not only a great item to decorate with, it's still functional too! We don't fine them often!
