This is a matching pair of 8 1/2 inch wide plates manufactured by James and Ralph Clews of Cobridge, Staffordshire, England. Their mark, with a crown, is impressed on the reverse of each plate, dating them to circa 1820. They are both in excellent condition. There are no chips or cracks. There are one or two tiny glaze flakes lost from the outside rim, and only the lightest and faintest of crazing on either plate. The borders are beautifully sculpted with flowers and the highlight is the hand-painted lime green accents against the rich cream ground.
