Antique 6 Draw Scottish Telescope D. W. Laird Leith (Edinburgh) Circa 1834-1851

This fourth telescope was made by "D. W. Laird Leith" so marked on the smallest draw. Antique telescopes by Scottish makers are much less common than their English counterparts. This is a six draw model. David White Laird worked out of Bridge Street in Leith (Edinburgh) between 1834-1851. The draws are nice and tight and when properly extended, deliver a clear image. The base barrel is comprised of solid wood. The eyepiece lens is protected by a sliding lens protector and there is a protective brass protector cap for the larger object lens. The telescope measures only 7.00" retracted and 29.5" with all six draws extended. There are a couple of issue which I need to mention. There are dents on the third and fourth draws and in the eyecup surrounding the eyepiece lens; I also note a small amount of solder in the connection between between draws one and two - none of these issues affects the functioning of the instrument. This is a well machined telescope. Buyer pays shipping and required insurance ($15.00 in continental USA and $55.00 international). I do not ship to China and payment is expected within 3 days of the end of the auction.
