This is a lovely antique early American oil painting painted between 1840 and 1860 . The painting is about 25x32 inches. It was found in Southern Mass. Years ago we were told it may be by Thomas Sully. We really have no way to tell for sure. The painting does have damage. There are 2 tears. One to the right of her head and another to the left and lower. Some paint chips here and there. It is supported on the back by another piece of cloth and attached to the stretcher. There is no real damage to the face at all. And her clothes are intact. IT does not look like it was ever retouched and the paint itself looks original. It needs a cleaning and restoration. When it is done it will sparkle. A nice addition to any collection of early American portraits.PLEASE WAIT FOR AN INVOICE BEFORE PAYING!!! THANKS!!! IMPORTANT : Payment is due 5 business days after the auction has ended. International buyers are responsible for any import charges due. Mailings are done once a week. Thanks.
