we have a very fancy, ornate antique ring, which dates to the turn of the last century! It is marked 'sterling', and also bears an unusual hallmark, which has been driving me batty(-ier) trying to identify! The ring is a size 6 1/2 - 7-ish ( inner diameter is just over 5/8") , and weighs 2.5 grams. Its presentation area is so exquisitely decorated with the central red garnet, in middle of 'flower' and the 8 'petals' are set with amazing sparkling stones that are either high quality crystals, or diamonds.. ( i simply must get a gem tester...and a ring sizer!) All stones are edged with fine millgrain detailing, an Edwardian characteristic, and all are old European cut. T are 11 stones all told, the center red garnet , which might be glass, and the 10 smaller accents. The top of this lovely old treasure measures 3/4" across, and 1/2" north-to-south. with my loupe, I see a couple of flea bites to the top facet of the red stone, as its top protrudes out into the cold, cruel world and no doubt has had its share of encounters with door facings and the like. The band is in good shape, in round, and is 2 mm in width, with no wear. This ring has been sitting for decades in Madame's jewelry cache...time to get out a live a little!
