A stunning William IV (c.1830) writing box with exceptionally fine and intricate Mother of Pearl inlay, all intact, framed with thick pewter stringing, typical of this era.Made from exotic (and expensive) Rosewood, the box is beautifully crafted with gentle rounded edges all around and flush campaign style brass handles to the sides. The interior reveals the intact original embossed velvet writing surface surrounded by Walnut cross-banding. Each of the writing slopes opens to reveal storage below, there is a shrinkage hairline to the secondary wood or the base of the box, quite normal for these boxes and mentioned and shown purely for accuracy. There is a lidded section with storage below for pens etc., a sloped section for pen nibs and two replacement brass topped glass inkwells, one for red ink, one for black. A wonderfully decorative gem, measuring 15 3/4" x 9 1/2" x 5 1/2" while closed. Item ID: 34358 FREE Worldwide Registered Airmail Directly From London, England
