Measuring approximately 34 inches tall including the base, this is a TRUE feather tree in every respect! It comes from Germany and was made during the late 1800s. The branches are most likely Goose Down Feathers and they are still mainly a realistic brilliant green after all these years! T is a bit of darkening and very slight crushing of some of the feathers as would be expected for age, but it lends a look of realism to the tree, in my opinion. None of the feathers are missing. Each branch tip has a red Bakelite or Celluloid (?) Berry. I'm not sure date-wise what would have been used. Perhaps glass? I truthfully do not know. The trunk is wood and wrapped with what looks to me to be tobacco leaves in order to simulate bark. It is most likely a heavy type of tissue paper, I would suspect. The base is approximately 4 x 4 inches and covered in paper, but underneath is a solid rough block of wood. The paper has Christmas Wreaths on 4 sides and a black square on the top. The bottom has no paper. The "bark" is peeling in a few places, showing the wood underneath. I think it looks good that way; you might want to repair it. The paper on the base is curling up about 2/3 inch on one corner, and this can be glued. The paper is showing age in several places, but nothing to deter one from displaying it as is.
