This listing is for a Pocket Aneroid Barometer in gilt brass. It was made by the esteemed Scottish scientific instrument maker George Lowden who was working in Dundee between 1849 & 1900. He made various instruments including barographs, altimeters and telescopes. He was the supplier of choice to amongst others John Mills who set up a private observatory in Dundee. One of his telescopes is on display in the Royal Observatory in Edinburgh. Pocket Aneroid Barometers only existed from the early 1860s when Vidi created a patented instrument; so we can date this one fairly accurately. It would have been an expensive item when new and carried by a wealthy Victorian gentleman. Condition is very good, just some rubbing to the gilt case where it has been held over the years (see photos). By the way the owner was right handed! The glass is free from scratches or other flaws. There is an adjustment screw on the back. Please remember should you be unhappy with your purchase for any reason just return it to me for a full refund. All I ask is that you contact me first and the item is returned in the same condition as I delivered it. OVERSEAS BIDDERS - I would appreciate a request for postage costs prior to 'bidding'. Thanks. Thanks for looking. Posted with eBay Mobile
