This Knights Templar Sword was made by E.A. Armstrong between approx. 1880 & 1894, when the co. was acquired by the Frank Hendersen Co.. The handle is ivory. T is a cross within a medieval cross on one side & a wreath with a crown enclosing a fancy capital "M" on the other. The pommel is a Knight's head. The finger guard has a raised Knight's head on each side. T is very little gilding left on the metal parts. The blade is heavily engraved with heraldic scenes on both sides. The owner's name (John Millon Johnston) is engraved on the right side. The steel scabbard has surface rust, but does not appear to have much pitting. It appears to have about 30% of the original plating. The top of the scabbard has raised heraldic arms above a red cross within a crown. The center decoration appears to be a suit of armor with 2 halberds & 3 swords above a red Maltese Cross. The tip has a raised heraldic arms scene. T is very little gilding on the decorative metal. The blade is approx. 30.75", the scabbard is approx. 32.5", & the unit is 40" overall. I've made no attempt to restore the sword. I've tried to describe the piece as clearly as I can.
