This auction is for an antique metal letter opener. The letter opener, which measures 7.5" long, appears to be silver plate with some gilded metal trim.

This very interesting letter opener is shaped like a sword. The blade is silver metal--probably steel, and the handle and finger protector are gilded metal. T is a coat of arms of some sort on the handle, and t is a metal trim which hangs from the handle.

The sword letter opener includes its sheath, which is gilded metal.

I don't know the age of this item, but it looks quite old. I listed it as 1900-1940, but it may well be older than that--1850-1900? The gilded metal is rubbed off in some areas. The sword fits very tightly into the sheath. In fact, I have only partially inserted it (3/4 of the way), fearing that I might be unable to remove it.

An extremely interesting piece!
