We are delighted to offer you this fine antique, artisan hand-crafted, Modernist sterling silver brooch, from the Art Nouveau era! It looks to have been cast, and is just wonderful! It is in very excellent condition , and features a very Art Nouveau style of open work scrolls, graceful curves and artful flourishes, and what it ever may been is left up to my mind of the beholder! I see a large eyed sea creature, long and slithery, whose tail ends in a fleur-de-lys ! A most aesthetic brooch, it measures 1 3/8" long and 1 1/8" in width. It has a depth of 1/8", with its curves and beading and balls on each 'corner' rising up as they do. It weighs 7.5 grams, and has a hinged pin and safety clasp on back, w it is marked 'sterling'. This is a high quality artisan piece, made in the Arts and Crafts tradition. The Arts and Crafts movement resulted from artists 'revolting' against the sudden flood of lesser quality, mass machine- produced jewelry pieces flooding the shops. The movement was given its name after the Arts and Crafts Exhibition Society , founded in 1882, in England. The movement reached its peak in the early 1900s... but its spirit lives on among numerous talented artists and craftspeople
