This auction is for what appears to be an Antique Late 1800's? to early 1900's? (Unknown) Brass Chinese Cricket cage. This was my great grandmothers who collected oriental items. Im not too sure of when or w she purchased this. She passed away in 1993 and it was in her collection. Some items were antique some was not. I was told this one was old. It is marked india with some numbers on the bottom. It is a very solid piece. Measuring an impressive 8 ¼" long, 6 ¾" wide and almost 5" tall . This size cage was mostly used for containing larger crickets called Guoguo . They were usually captured for cricket fighting . This cage has a pierced design, heavy brass handle and hand punched dot design all over. It has a few small dents but is in really nice shape for its age. The lid closes tight and latch and handle work fine. It has round feet on the bottom The brass has an nice old patina. It has been polished in the past so t is some wax residue in the crevases but I didn't want to shine it as most people like this look. It shows its age. The inside is tarnished. Could be easily cleaned if you wanted to. Please look at pics provided. I used it to hold my healing crystals. Insurance will be manditory on this item. Price depends on how much it sells for. CRICKET FACTS In ancient days, the cricket cage was used for exactly what it sounds
