A beautiful old writing box, circa 1900 or earlier, that is in excellent structural condition. It measures 7 ½" wide, 7 ¼" deep and 6 ¼" high. It features a hinged, domed lid and has mother of pearl and abalone shell inlay with gilded scroll decoration on all sides. The inlay is 98% intact with very minor losses on the back of the dome edge and compartment lid. The dome has fancy hinges and opens to reveal paper covered wood separated areas for letters, paper, and cards. Between the glass ink bottles is a small lidded compartment with decoration on the lid and a carved shell knob. Two corners of the lid have nicks. The two crystal ink bottles are the originals, but have some roughness to the bottom corners and the tops are missing. A fine antique sold with no reserve. Check out my other items !
