Antique Queen Victoria Invitation Card To A Ball Buckingham Palace A Personal Invitation Card From "Queen Victoria" The card measures approx, 18.2cm(7.1") by 12.8cm(5"). the item is marked; " The Lord Chamberlain Is Commanded By The Queen To Invite Mr Backhouse To a Ball on Thursday 19th July at 10 O'clock Buckingham Palace - Full Dress ." The item would most likely have been addressed to either John Backhouse or his son George.George Canning Backhouse was the son of John Backhouse. John Backhouse (1784 -1845) was Prime Minister George Cannings under secretary before becoming permanent under-secretary of the Foreign Office until 1842. George Canning Backhouse was himself a notable figure in the foreign office and was murdered in 1855 whilst in Havana on official duties. The item is in a very good general condition, just the odd surface mark. The rear of the card has a light pencil address. Please take a look at the photos as they form part of the description.
