Antique Reuge Music Box - Metal & Wood Chinoiserie Case

Measuring 3" high by 4 7/8" long by roughly 3 3/4" wide, this antique Reuge music box is small but packs a punch! Four sides are clad in great quality metal panels in relief depicting prunus trees and birds, while the lid shows a chinoiserie pagoda scene. The snake scale or basket weave-like pattern gives the box an interesting texture. The metalwork makes this piece a bit hefty. You'll notice that the lid is a bit offset, which, I assume, happened after leaving the heavy lid in the open position over the years. In my opinion, this in no way impacts the box - aesthetically or functionally. The lid opens to reveal the signed Reuge works; under the lid is the original label. The underside of the box retains its original label as well. If you look closely at the base, you will see that it is signed. All of this and Léo Chauliac's 1940s version of "I Wish You Love" to boot...a sweet little package, indeed. If you have a minute, please be sure to view my other auctions for another Reuge music box from the same collection.
