The color of the velvet used to be shades of dark green, but over the many years all of the velvet exposed to the light has faded to shades of gold and olive. When the album is closed and sitting on the stand, you would think the gold and olive were the original colors. There is an ornate latch and locking mechanism that works and keeps the book securely closed. The edges of the album pages are burnished in gold. To open the album, you fold the book down towards yourself from the ledge. There are hinges underneath at the bottom that hold the album attached to the ledge. Once down, you see the original color and also the mirror is visible. The mirror is 6 1/2" by 8 1/2" and in very good condition with just a few very minor marks. The binding and spine of the album are in Very Good condition as are the inside 28 pages that hold photos. 24 pages hold one photo and 4 pages have openings for 4 smaller pictures. There is very pretty gold scroll and floral work around all the ... read more
