This is a fine example of a H. Samuel, ‘Accurate’ solid silver pocket watch. Interestingly, it has two assay marks. Marks for Chester 1901 inside the outer lid and marks for Birmingham 1927 on the inner case. Your guess is as good as mind as the reason why this watch as two silver marks. The watch appears not to be marriage at first inspection as it looks right. The watch is keeping excellent time and runs strongly. It has a going barrel reversing pinion movement which is very clean with a serial number no 499861 stamped on the top plate. It also has ‘reversing pinion’ stamped near the balance cock. The balance cock is engraved and has a compensated balance. The regulator has a clear index measured in small increments. It is key wind and hand set. The condition of the silver case is generally good – one dent on back near crown and a few minor dents around the lower back. The machine turning is showing some signs of wear but the cartouche is in excellent condition. All hinges are intact and both the bezel and the back shut in a crisp manner. The porcelain dial is clean except for small damage between X11 and 1, see photograph. There are some small nibbles near the top of the dial but these are easily covered by the bezel.
