This is avery nice Devon landscape by William Henry Dyer whowas active between 1890 and 1930. Dyer was a very competent & prolific painter of coastal and moorland scenes mainly in Devon, using watercolour and sometimes oil, and lived for most of his live in Babbacombe. Dyer does not appear to have exhibited regularly but did exhibit at an exhibition of West Country artists at the Graves Gallery in London around 1900. This is a very typical example of his work This painting is titled “Hookner Tor” which is on Dartmoor , and was done in the early 20 th C., the image is in very good condition based on its age. The frame is probably original and again is in good condition for its age and its slightly distressed condition does not detract from the quality of the work. The painting would, however, benefit greatly by replacing the original gilt mount with a new lighter mount. The work measures overall 17 ½ x 13 ¾ in., the image size being 11 ¼ x 7 ½ in. and is signed and inscribed at lower right. There is no reserve and my shipping costs include secure packing.
