Gustavsberg Argenta Sweden Box and Lid

in the bright gleaming mottled green pottery finish so famous.

It is a generous size and was probably made to hold cigarettes. I have included a US cent in the pictures for size determination.

Silver inlaid decoration includes two birds in verso on the Lid, and silver patterns around the edge. The writing on the bottom is, as always, stamped silver also.

Circa late 1940s or earlier, and in perfect condition! T is one tiny white spot on the bottom rim of the box, which might be a maker's imperfection. It might show in the photos, but I doubt it. It is less than 1/2 mm in size.

The base is marked Gustavsberg above an anchor mark and Argenta with the number 1229 both moulded and silvered on the bottom. It is also marked Made in Sweden.

We were in London in the early 1950s and my parents bought this box in Sweden, I suspect in 1953. It has been in the family since.
