This is the original 1888 publication in the large 14 X 10 ½ format titled Designating Flags of the United States Army 1861 1865. This 85 plus page reference contains color prints of the flags of the Union Army used during the Civil War to designate the various armies, army corps, division and brigade headquarters and field positions as well as those flags of the various branches of the Union Army. This scarce first edition was published by Burk & McFetridge of Philadelphia and was compiled under direction of the Quartermaster General of the Army. The condition is excellent with some ware at the corners of its spine and covers. The binding is tight and the pages with their colorful prints are without fault.
