US Army WW2 BATTLE OF THE BULGE Khaki Wool COMBAT HOOD 1944 Vtg RARE

The US Army issued the wool combat hood early in WW2 to be used with the service mask, but it played an even greater, unintended role later in the war. The wool combat hood proved extremely useful in the bitter winter conditions during the Battle of the Bulge, helping to stave off one final disaster. Worn under the steel helmet to provide increased warmth, the wool combat hood proved to be an extremely important piece of uniform gear. The Battle of the Bulge was the greatest battle ever fought by the US Army, involving more men than in the entire Pacific Theater. This US Army WW2 BATTLE OF THE BULGE Khaki Wool COMBAT HOOD is in very good condition, with only one slight moth hole at the right side (pictured). Otherwise, the hood is in fine shape, with absolutely no rips, tears, soiling, or other damage to the tough khaki wool construction. It's a Size Medium, complete with all of the original buttons, and is dated "JUNE 1944" on the original nomenclature tag inside. A great relic of that great winter battle. We have shown an iconic photo of a US soldier during the Battle of the Bugle, he can be seen wearing a similar wool combat hood underneath his steel helmet.
