The photo's I have selected to show are not in this book they are from my own private African Montecito Collection. I just intended to show other Senufo Art like animal mask, also called Firespitter. I have a weakness for these Firespitter or as they are known by Senufo "Kponyungo" Helmet. The book has a great deal of art and Anita explains all of it very well.

Art And Death In A Senufo Village is a very Powerful hardback that discribes and analyzes the nature and purpose of art in a typical Senufo village w traditions have remained relatively free of outside influence. In an area subject to drought, famine, and endemic desease, the Senufo face constant hardship and the threat of death. To counter such specters, they have evolved a richly varied series of divination, initiation, and funeral rituals designed to protect and strengthen their community. They use wood scuptures, masks like I show in my home photo's for they are believed to have a life power of their own.
