Art Nouveau br. medal by Lagrange : the Young Sower (starting price: USD $9.99 NO RESERVE) Obv/ A young man walking to the right and sowing. In the background a country landscape. Rev/ A winged Victory to the left close to a round cartouche (with the following inscription : &quotSociete des Agriculteurs du Nord") . On the left side, t is a palm branch. Information and bibliography: This bronze medal was engraved by Jean Lagrange (1831-1908). He was pupil to V.J. Vilvert in Lyon and to J. Bonassieux in Paris. In 1860, he was awarded of the Grand Prize of Rome for the medals, he was chief engraver at the Paris Mint between 1880-1896. The reverse shows a lovely engraving by L.O. Mattei A bit more about this medal: the Sower by Lagrange was a very popular medal during the first part of the 20th C. The reverse often shows an inscription or a kind of Country Animals Scenery. With such a reverse by Mattei, it becomes a scarcer one!
