An attractive example of the 1920's art pottery production of Shelley, England, in the form of a hand enamelled narrow necked bulbous vase in their 'Japanese Lake Scene' pattern dating from about 1926. On a deep blue ground the scene on the front is that of an oriental lake and garden scene whilst on the reverse is an exotic long tailed bird with flowers; the upper rim edge is black with a yellow interior. The vase stands five and a half inches in height, the backstamp being that of the scripted within shield 'Shelley, England' one as applied to the factory's wares during the period 1925-1940 with pattern number 8682 and shape number 771. It is in excellent condition with no chips, cracks or hairlines, nor any scratches, fading, crazing, rubbing, discolouration, etc., and no restoration. There is no reserve and our start price is a very reasonable one.
