ATTRIBUTED WALLACE NUTTING NEW ENGLAND BANNISTER BACK SIDE CHAIR ON SPANISH FEET

EARLY 20TH CENTURY NEW ENGLAND BANISTER BACK SIDE CHAIR ON SPANISH FEET ATTRIBUTED TO WALLACE NUTTING
It is with great pleasure that we offer this fine early 20th century bannister back side chair. This chair is crafted in the same manner and with the very same strict adherence to detail as any early 18th century banister back chair from Massachusetts or lower New England. The chair crest is elaborately pierce carved with finely turned finials flanking either side of the crest rail. The four bannister formed splats are well formed with turned chair stiles on either side. The rush seat is not as old as the chair itself, it was professionally redone within the last decade or so. A professional rush seat like this costs no less than $300- $400 today and that is if you are fortunate enough to find an expert who still offers the service. The chair stands on richly carved spanish feet in the front with splayed rear legs. A front bulbous turned stretcher and finely turned side stretchers provide the chair with tremendous structural support. All of the chair joints are very tight and sturdy. The chair measures 20 1/2" long x 16 3/4" wide x 45" tall with a seat height of 19 1/2" tall. The chair does not have the traditional paper label or brand that many Wallace Nutting pieces retain. Our family has sold many Nutting chairs identical
