Offered is an antique radio manufactured by Atwater Kent of Philadelphia,PA, in 1923. It is a model 4640 AK 20 also known as "the big box". It is a TRF design using 5 each 1/4 amp filament vacuum tubes; 4 each 201A's amplifiers and 1 each 200A detector. Several tested good 201A-BBT tubes will be included with the sale. The seller will locate working tube sources for purchaser if the high bidder wants to operate the radio or dummy ones for show. The radio is in perfect condition and indications are that is was never or infrequently used. The radio was checked for continuity and proper values of most of the major components with a calibrated ohmeter. The original AK radio logs consist of two cardboard-thick log sheets still in their clips inside the radio cabinet. Logs were needed because the radio used three dial operated capacitors to locate radio transmitters and one would write down the dial settings (from 0 - 100) in order to locate the station again. The logs have not been written on. The serial number on the metal tag inside the lid is 131951. The brass tube sockets, brass binding posts and the tag model number 4640 show that this radio was an early model. This radio is considered one of the best quality in performance by some antique AK radio collectors. It measures 26 inches by 8.5 inches high by 7.5 inches deep and weighs
