Offered from my personal collection for the first time, this large Native American knife and sheath is exquisitely seed-beaded in cobalt blue and white colors. The huge knife blade measures 10.25 " in length by 2.5 " wide, while the antler handle measures just over 6" long, making this behemoth almost a whopping 16.5 " long!! Truly a knife that even Crocodile Dundee would be proud to own! The blade has a classic clip-pointed Bowie style shape and is extremely sharp! T is a very light surface rust on it, but it is NOT pitted. T are some rough edges, left by incomplete firework, near the tang. The handsome, finely beaded sheath is made of a soft hand-stitched leather and measures almost 11" long by 4" wide. The inside, curved edge has three attached cone drops, each sprouting a thick shank of black horsehair. The beadwork color combination, which sports a morning star type motif, is typical, but not exclusive to the Arapahoe tribe. The beadwork is tightly sewn down, in a lazy stitch pattern and has NO bead loss! Attached to the back, is a braided leather thong, for securing the sheath to the waist or belt. This beautiful knife and sheath most likely date to the early 20th century; possibly from 1920 - 1940. Read my feedback report and bid with confidence!!
