An artistic masterpiece, a historical and spiritual treasure, worthy of a museum or the treasury of a Cathedral: A nearly life-size statue of Christ, pointing to His Sacred Heart, in massive nutwood, from a Convent in Lorraine/France, ca. 1690 - ca. 60 inches in height! A piece of amazing grace and beauty, inspiring the love and devotion to Our Lord Jesus Christ, bringing an atmosp of peace and spirituality into your home or private chapel! An original antique, large, massive nut-wood statue of the resurrected Christ (the nailwounds are visible!), a masterpiece of a French woodcarver of the High Barocque period. Note the serene, majestic face, note the many realistic details of the hands! His right hand is open, ready for a blessing or an encounter, but also giving testimony to His most glorious resurrection. His left hand points toward His Sacred Heart, indicating that the statue was inspired by the devotion of the Sacred Heart of Christ, spread after the visions of St. Margaret Mary Alacoque (1647-90).* Since the convent this statue comes from was indeed a Visitandine Convent near Metz/Lorraine, it represents one of the early witnesses of this devotion, which was officially approved by Pope Clement XIII only in 1765, more than half a century after this statue was created (according to stylistic and artistic criteria). read more
