They were first issued way back in 1886 to be due 50 Years Later! Since these were purchased just a few years before their Due Date , it is likely that they had been discounted. Remember, we were in the Midst of the Great Depression at that time! But this is the exact same certificate from more than 130 Years Ago. Since they were probably squirreled away, they are in Excellent Shape - Virtually Uncirculated . The Beech Creek Railroad is one of literally dozens that were absorbed into the New York Central Railroad in 1914. That huge Railroad System merged with the Pennsylvania Railroad in 1968 to become Penn Central . It has the HAND-WRITTEN SIGNATURES of the Vice President and Assistant Treasurer at the bottom as well as FIVE MORE HAND-WRITTEN SIGNATURES on the back!!! What a Piece of History! But the best part of all is the Beautiful Vignettes which you can see below. On the Left is an Exotic Woman symbolizing a River Deity - you can see the Imprinted Registration Seal next to her which says "New York Central Railroad Consolidated December 23, 1914" - and on the Right another Allegorical Figure who simultaneously represents both Manufacturing and Agriculture.
