Blanche Rothschild (1893-1988) Seated Woman Portrait

This is a colorful and vibrant portrait of a seated woman by the artist Blanche Rothschild (1893-1988). There is not much information about Rothschild but one of her paintings entitled The Wedding Dress is in the permanent collection of the National Museum of Women in the Arts. While the woman is clothed in mostly black there are bright contrasts of yellow, white and red. The background has a range of colors with visible brushstrokes giving a sense of motion. The woman's face is composed of patches of a broad range of colors. The painting has a large signature on the verso. The condition is essentially excellent with a few scratches in the upper left quadrant. The painting is being sold unframed. The stretcher dimensions are 20" x 24".
