This is an identified section of wood, Torchwood, from Lyle Hardesty's personal collection of Eden Valley Blue Mountain wood. (Eocene Epoch, Green River Formation) The wood has wonderfully visible growth rings and rays on one end which have been sliced by nature clean enough to stand upright. The limb is partly surrounded by blue chalcedony, some of which is inner-coated with gold calcite crystals. Wood still is visible on the rest except that aA bit of matrix still clings to the back. The colors of the wood are the wonderful browns and black that have made Eden Valley wood so popular, but the chalcedony and calcite add a wonderful blue and gold and texture to the design. The specimen measures 6 1/2" x 3" x 2 1/4" and weighs 2 1/2 pounds
