P AHM Pennsylvania Class J-1 2-10-4 Texas Prototype Notes: During World War II the Pennsylvania needed more heavy duty freight engines to supplement their fleet of Mountains, Mikados and Decapods. The War appropriations board restricted new engineering and the Pennsylvania used the engineering and plans for the C&O 2-10-4s as a basis for their new freight engines. The resulting 2-10-4s are basically clones of the C&O engines but there were cosmetic changes that made the J-1s uniquely Pennsy. The design turned out very successful and provided the Pennsy with excellent service till the end of steam operations in 1957. The last years the J-1s used in the Ohio coal routes. While the Pennsuy saved many of their steamers for museums, no J-1 was saved. Model Notes: AHM imported this model from KTM (Katsumi) of Japan in the late 1960s. KTM was a reknown builder of robust O scale locomotives for May Gray, US Hobbies and Westside. Features: Sprung Drivers Robust Construction Driver Brake Shoes Custom Paint PFM Sound Installation with Sound Cam Item Condition: This model is in excellent condition. It comes from my personal Pennsy collection. It was obtained in 2002 from Bob Fischer's Gingerbread Stop. It was purchased custom painted with the PFM Sound installation by Bob's painter.
