British Original Comic Art by JACK PROUT for BLACK BOB.BLACK BOB collectors will know just how rare originals are for the famous sheepdog whose adventures appeared in THE DANDY and other D.C. Thomson publications.TWO PANELS. As follows: Panel 1. Pen and ink on card. Unidentified publication. Size: 18cm x 10cm approx. (top in picture)and Panel 2 . Pen and ink on card. Published in DANDY ANNUAL 1953 (page 23). Size slightly larger than above. (With bell; bottom in picture) TWO panels. ONE price. Post free. Jack Prout (1903-1978) was a D.C. Thomson staff artist who joined the firm in the 1920s. Prout's work appeared in Thomson's WEEKLY NEWS and SUNDAY POST. Then, in the 1930s, when Thomson launched the BEANO and DANDY his work was used to illustrate stories. On 25 November 1944 he illustrated the first 'Black Bob' story and was thereafter associated with its star. 'Black Bob' became a picture strip in the WEEKLY NEWS on 5 October 1946 and remained as artist for more than twenty years. Prout died in 1978 age 75.
