Bronze Medal~Cunard Lines~Queen Mary~1936 Maiden Voyage

Cunard White Star Lines bronze medal is 2.75" diameter set in the original velvet and satin lined 4" presentation box from the Royal Mint. Medal was designed by Gilbert Bayes and originally produced for the first class passengers on the maiden voyage of the RMS Queen Mary. The design includes a stylized image of a speeding ship at sea with the words: Maria Regina Mare Me Commisit with loose translation Queen Mary to the Sea. On the reverse are the city shields of New York and Southhampton, the home ports. The date of commission 1936, Cunard and White Star Emblems. All viewed through the town arch of Southhampton's Bargate and the art deco skyline of New York." Queen Mary" around the top.
