The reproduction lithographs from the so-called "Amsterdam edition" can be compared in quality in modern times only to the Abbeville edition published by the Audubon Society itself in 1985. They are very appealing to the serious Audubon collector due to the look of the highest quality, and being so very similar to the original Havell edition of 1839. Printed in a complex and accurate process of color photo-lithography on watermarked, woven paper of the highest quality, using 100% unbleached cotton rags. Two hundred and fifty copies only of the Amsterdam edition were published and sold by subscription. At the time it was the first recreation of the Audubon plates in their original, life-sized, elephant folio dimensions in 135 years.
