This Civil War issue percussion cap box remains in excellent all original condition and is nicely marked C.S. STORM / MAKER N.Y. on the body. Of special interest to the purest Civil War collector is that this box retains much of it's original inner fleece, several period percussion rifle caps and the wire vent pick. The piece came from attic storage where it had been set aside with other Civil War issue accoutrements of James M. Studley who served in the 24th Maine Infantry and later in the 2nd Maine Cavalry. (The piece is not ID marked but we will provide the ID information on our letter in the interest of preserving it's history.) J. M. Studley was a twenty-five year old Warren, Maine resident when he first enlisted in the military on October 13, 1862 and was mustered in as a Pvt. of Co. B, 24th Maine Volunteer Infantry. Studley was promoted to Sgt. on the 20th of October and remained with the nine-month regiment until the end of its term when its members were mustered out in Augusta, Maine on August 16, 1863. On December 8, 1863 Studley entered military service once more, this time as a Sgt. Co. D of the newly organizing 2nd Maine Cavalry. He would remain in service to the 2nd Cavalry until the regiment mustered out on 12/6/1865 at Barrancas, Florida. A nice honest piece! Don't forget to give our search feature a try for special
