An real-photographic postcard by Perkins of the "C" Class Torpedo Boat Destroyer HMS Osprey built by Fairfield Shipbuilding Company at Govan on the River Clyde and commissioned into the Royal Navy in July 1898. There were 4 classes of TBD's; namely: "A" Class with a designed speed of 27 knots; then the "B C & D" Classes of 30 knots with the "B" Class having four funnels; the "C" Class 3 and the "D" Class just 2. Apart from this there is little else to choose between the lot. At the outbreak of WW1, HMS Osprey was assigned to the 8th Destroyer Flotilla based at Chatham providing anti-submarine and anti-mine patrols. However, a month later she was re-deployed to Scapa Flow to perform the same duties. In 1916 she went to Ireland and was based at Larne until 1918 when she transferred to the 2nd Destroyer Flotilla based at Londonderry - again on the same duties. HMS Osprey was sold for scrap in 1919. The postcard is in an excellent condition and has not been posted. I will combine postage for multiple wins and if this applies then please await my amended invoice. Postage costs via Royal Mail 1st Class are: Great Britain = £1.00 Europe = £2.00 Inter-continental = £2.50
