c1840 Thomas Cains South Boston Flint Glass Sandwich 3 Ring Pitcher Primitive 8"

A rare 8 to 8 1/4" Thomas Cains South Boston or possibly Sandwich flint glass pitcher or jug! This 3 ring pitcher, similar to the more common 3 ring decanters, is overall blown with a polished pontil to the round foot, 3 molded rings to the body, shaped rim and nice thick loop handle. Measures 8 1/4 inches to top of handle. Unfortunately, the prunt or finial to the base of the handle has snapped off, an odd, but common defect. Otherwise, the only damage appears to be a small spot of wear to the rim, likely an early repair to a bruise. Retains couple of tiny potstones or calcium deposits, but no radiations. And lots of honest wear to the foot. A similar, one ring example from a Glass International catalogue appears in images. A rare early american piece of tableware, with the unfortunate 3/4 inch loss to base of handle, but no cracks. buyer to pay $17.00 insured priority mail within the US. 2-3 pounds internationally
