c1890s Ad Circular of Catered Foods from Habenstein Confectioners, Hartford CT

Four page advertising circular from E. Habenstein, fashionable confectioner and caterer, 269 Main Street, Hartford, Connecticut gives one an excellent idea of what fine catering was in the late 19th century in Hartford. The inside pages have fine print lists, or menus, that could be prepared for weddings and parties, plus flowers, center pieces, silver ware, china and glass wares, waiters, etc. The food list includes bride's cakes, creams and ices, meringues, meats, games, fruits, and coffee table. The list of meats and game is extensive and, in addition to more commonly served meats, included sweetbread patties, jellied tongues, larded snipe and pigeons, prairie fowls, woodcock, red head ducks, stewed terrapin, etc. See scans for more detail.
