C1903 Young & Sons Phila. Survey Transit #7661 w/Tripod

This c1903 Survey Transit was made by Young & Sons in Philadelphia PA. and is serial number 7661. This early brass transit is complete with its wood storage box number 7652 and wood tripod number 7242. Also included is a spare lens? and two bobs; one bob is unsigned and the other is signed Standard 6491-14. This well made Young & Sons Transit has been in storage for many years and appears to be working properly. The cross hairs are visible and the focus adjusting knobs control the focus. The brass has a nice patina. All bubble levels are excellent and all adjusting knobs turn. The compass and pointer lock are working properly. The compass dial is signed Young & Sons Philadelphia and 7661. The eye piece retains its built in lens protector and the scope retains its slip on lens protector cover. The oak dovetailed box retains its inside Young & Sons label and is stamped #7652. The storage box has some dripped paint on the top and has had a repair to the back side of the cover. The lock is present but I do not have the key and only part of the original leather strap remains (see photos). The storage box retains its original New York Blue Print Co. metal tag. The storage box is sound and will clean up nicely. The wood tripod is stamped number 7242. The tripod is complete but will need new leather straps. The transit is ... read more
