~ c1945 HMS Anson Off New South Wales, Australia Oil by H. Dalton Hall ~ This is a stunning oil of the Battleship Anson. Given the capture of light and exemplary level of detail, I would suggest that this was painted in situ.The painting is signed lower right: H. Dalton Hall. ~ HMS Anson ~ HMS Anson was a King George V-class battleship of the Royal Navy, named after Admiral George Anson. Laid down at the Swan Hunter shipyard in Wallsend in 1937 and launched in 1940, the ship was originally to be named Jellicoe, after the Grand Fleet commander at the Battle of Jutland, but she was renamed Anson in February 1940. Anson saw service in the Second World War, escorting nine Russian convoys in the Arctic by December 1943. After the war, she was the flagship for the 1st battle squadron of the British Pacific Fleet. She was scrapped along with her other three sister ships in 1957. ~ Dimensions ~ The frame is 21 inches (53cm) wide by 17 inches (43cm) tall.The painting is 15.75 inches (40cm) wide by 11.25 inches (28.5cm) tall.The total weight is 1.77 kg.~ Condition ~ The painting is in very decent condition.
