c1954 Vintage U.S. Divers Snorkel in Orignal Box w/ Jacques Cousteau Graphics

This is an original, vintage snorkel with its original box made by US Divers.

The front of the box reads in part "U.S. Divers manufacturers of the famous aqua-lung. Safety...Quality...Dependability. Aquatic Snorkel Green. " [The snorkel is yellow.]

The side of the box has safety rules for diving.

The rear of the box has a portrait of Jacques Cousteau and the ship Calypso. It states "Captain Jacques Y. Cousteau: The world's most famous diver and co-inventor of the Aqua Lung. A new era of underwater exploration and adventure began 12 years ago when Captain Cousteau, young French naval officer, dived with the first Aqua Lung. [etc...] U.S. Divers is the exclusive manufacturer of the Aqua Lung for the Western Hemisphere. [etc...]"

Since Cousteau first dived with the aqua lung in 1942 the box must date to circa 1954.

The color lithographed cover shows a diver with a spear gun wearing an early Aqua Lung.

The box measures 15 1/2 inches long X 4 inches wide X 1 inch deep.

The box is in good condition aside from two indentations in the front edge and light wear to the other edges.

The snorkel is in good condition aside from two small dark gray smudges.
