A fine and rare early oval pattern of shoulder title to the Canadian Scottish Regiment. The Canadian Scottish Regiment was formed in 1920 by the amalgamation of the 50th Gordon Highlanders and the 88th Regiment Victoria Fusiliers. With two battalions the 1st Headquartered in Victoria the 2nd at Naniamo. The 2nd Battalion was converted to a machine gun regiment in the December 1936 reorganization of the Canadian Militia amalgamating with ‘A’ Company, 11th Machine Gun Battalion, Canadian Machine Gun Corps. However just before the outbreak of WWII the 2nd Battalion was converted to artillery. In WWII the regiment mobilized the 1st (Active) Battalion The Canadian Scottish Regiment mobilized as a component the 7th Infantry Brigade, 3rd Canadian (Infantry) Division. The regiment taking part in the D. Day landings on June 6th, 1944 serving in the bloody campaigns in Northwest Europe until the final defeat and surrender of the Nazi Forces May 8th, 1945. On the formation of the 1st (Active) Battalion a second (Reserve) Battalion was formed. As a reserve regiment of an active battalion the 2nd Bn was authorized to adopt a coloured shoulder titles. However the ‘ Oak leaf and acorn’ was a CEF battle honour of the 1st Battalion only and not worn on the cloth titles of the reserve battalion.. Please click on ‘View sellers other auctions’ above
