Catherine Giles, British, 1878-1955 – Modernist
4 wonderful watercolor and gouache paintings. The flower painting is signed lower right. The three landscapes are unsigned which was very common for Giles. All are framed by Stephen Murphy Framers, London and are stamped the same on verso. Also all are fitted, mounted and backed with non acidic conservation board and tape.
All are beautifully framed and ready to hang and in excellent condition.
These are extremely rare pieces as her work rarely comes available.

Catherina Dawson Giles was born on July 31, 1878 in Lewisham.She attended the Goldsmith’s Institute in New Cross in 1900 and went on to the Royal Academy. She became unhappy with the teaching methods and moved to France to studied under the American Max Bohm. While a pupil of Bohm’s she became friends with Jessica Dismorr who was also a student. They became lifelong friends and frequent traveling companions on painting expeditions.
