This is a VERY RARE piece of railroadiana dating back to pre-Civil War days in the 1850's . Issued by the Chicago and Mississippi Rail-Road Company , it is a (blank) report of Tickets Sold and Collected, and Fares Received by an unnamed steamer in 185-. Stations along the way are listed on the form and include: Alton, Monticello, Brighton, Shipman, Macoupin, Carlinville, Prairie Station, Virden, Auburn, Chatham, Lick Creek and Springfield . This railroad was only operational under the name Chicago & Mississippi from 1852-1855 and eventually became part of the Chicago and Alton RR and later the Gulf Mobile and Ohio RR . This document consists of 4 sides that open up; 2 sides leave room for the report and include a line drawing of a steamboat in between the words Mississippi and Rail-Road in the company name. Two sides just bear the C&M RR & Steam-Boat Passenger Report info in one of the upper corners. This probably came out of a larger receipt book from the company, but that's only a guess since this is all that there is. Each page measures 7-5/8" by 9-4/5" and the paper has a grayish blue cast to it. The document is in fairly good condition --- especially when one considers the fact that it's more than 150 years old ! There are a few minor tears, on the bottom and side edges and you can see where the paper must have been folded
